Introduction
Welcome to the Imai Laboratory IIS Open House site!
In 2005, IIS Open House will again be held on June 2nd (Thu) and 3rd (Fri) at Komaba Research Campus, Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo.
In Imai Laboratory, we will present our research related to Information and Communication Systems and Data Security.

1. Humancrypt
'Humancrypt' is the technology of information security that concerns the interface between humans and computers.
At this IIS Open House, we introduce our research on Online Handwritten Authentication(*1-1), Visual Secret Sharing(VSS)(*1-2), and Leakage-Resilient Authentication(*1-3).

*1-1: Online Handwritten Authentication ... The way to authenticate a person by how he writes with a pen.
*1-2: VSS ... The method for splitting an image into pieces (shares) such that it can only be seen when all (or a certain number of) shares are put together, while each share gives no clue about the image.
*1-3: Leakage-Resilient Authentication ... Authentication scheme that is secure against information leakage.

2. Network Security
We present our research on Intrusion Detection System (IDS)(*2-1) and display a demonstration of attacks on Wired Equivalent Privacy(WEP)(*2-2) and their prevention.

*2-1: IDS ... How to protect computer networks against any intrusion or abuse.
*2-2: WEP ... The standard encryption scheme for communication between wireless nodes.

3. Anonymous Communication and Crypto-Protocol
We display a demonstration of Anonymous Authentication(*3-1) and also explain our research on wireless cryptographic protocol and Anonymous Channel Schemes(*3-2).

*3-1: Anonymous Authentication ... The technology for authorization the communicator's rights anonymously.
*3-2: Anonymous Channel Schemes ... The technology for communication with hiding the original message sender.

4. Content Protection
Content Protection is to protect the copyright of digital content such as images, video, audio, and so on.
At this IIS Open House we display demonstrations of embedding Watermarking(*4-1) into audio and video and also present our research on Broadcast Encryption(*4-2).

*4-1: Watermarking ... Embedding an imperceptible signal into data such as audio, video, and images.
*4-2: Broadcast Encryption ... Schemes which enable a center to deliver encrypted data to a large set of users so that only a particular subset of privileged users can decrypt it.

5. Low Density Parity Check Code (LDPC Code)
A simple construction of LDPC code(*5-1) and more practical decoding methods with low computational complexity are included in our research topics. A detailled explaination of these topics will be presented during the IIS Open House activities.

6. Quantum Cryptography
We explain our research on Quantum Cryptography(*6-1).

*6-1: Quantum Cryptography ... How to detect eavesdropping due to physical principles.

7. Fail-Safe Information Security and Crypto-Infrastructures
We present our research on Fail-Safe Information Security(*7-1), which includes Leakage-Resilient Authentication(*1-3), Unconditionally Secure Digital Signature(USDS)(*7-2), Public Key Infrastructure(PKI)(*7-3), and ID-based cryptosystems(*7-4).

*7-1: Fail-Safe Information Security ... Fail safe systems protect the system by minimizing the damage against information leakage and/or key exposure, which might be caused by human errors, mis-configuration, implementation bugs and so on.
*7-2: USDS ... Unconditionally secure digital signature is a digital signature which cannot be broken even in the face of unlimited time and computational power.
*7-3: PKI ... Public Key Infrastructure is an infrastructure that maps public key certificates to user accounts which makes it possible to secure financial electronic transactions and exchange sensitive information between relative strangers.
*7-4: ID-based cryptosystems ... Instead of generating random pair of public/secret keys, ID-based cryptosystem allows the user to choose his ID as his public key and do not require complicated certificate managements seen in PKI.
